Biggest Loser Challenge - Charlie

Hello, My name is Charlie and I am an 8 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
Like all Corgis I love my food. Yet due to some breeding problems I have a hard time walking. Combine thise two issues and I am one overweight dog. I have a real good attitude and I love my people, however something needs to change here.
I got with my owner and with my vet and we have decided to put me on a diet.
I will be the "guinea pig" for a new diet plan from Hills Science diet. Its called the "Therapeutic Weight Reduction Program" The whole diet is in one box and it includes all of my food and my treats! Everything is pre-measured and the booklet inside completely details how much and how often I should eat. Its the easiest diet I've ever been on.
I eat two times a day and I get two treat bags a day, and I gobble up the food! Its really, really good.
My current weight is 35 pounds and my goal weight is 25 pounds.

So come with me on my weight loss journey and see what happends. I will be posting pictures of my weight loss and I will be tracking those pound coming off. Summer is coming and I need to get into my Summer weight.
The first pictures are me at my current weight. My dad calls me his "Sack of Potatoes". By the end of this I will be his "Skinny Minnie"!

Wish me luck!!!!

Week 2

Hello all, this is Charlie checking in and keeping you "in the loop".
Its been 6 days and 6 nights since I have started my new diet and I feel great!
My starting weight was 35 pounds, goal weight is 25 pounds, current weight 32.5 pounds!!!
I have lost 2.5 pounds in a week! I feel better and I am walking better. I am getting a waistline and I have hips.

Don't get me wrong. Its not like I haven't been begging for scraps because I'm a great beggar and I usually can get anything I want because I'm so darn cute and I can stare down a bull. But my people have not given me anything other that what I'm supposed to get. Which is 2 bags of food for breakfast, 1 bag of food at dinner, and 2 treat bags per day. I still love the food and I am sitting up for my treats, which I couldn't do last week.
Habits are hard to break. My parents and I have had to get tough to get healthy.
The pictures today are of me sitting up for a treat (YAY!) and a profile shot that hopefully will show off my trimmed self.
Until next week,
Charlie

Week 4

April 15th
Day 24...
Starting weight 35 pounds
Goal weight 25 pounds.
Current weight 31 pounds!!!

Hello all, its Charlie checking in.
Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, things have been hectic at the homestead. However my diet is still going strong. I have lost 4 pounds since starting the plan and I am one happy dog. I have a hitch to my giddy-up and I am walking at a much brisker pace.
I did get in trouble the other morning by eating out of my sister's bowl while my owner's back was turned, but hey whats a dog to do? The food was there! My owner learned her lesson and now feeds us seperately. Bummer.
I am traveling much farther in the yard and going on visits to my neighbor's houses. Spring is in ther air and I have people to visit. Everybody is making a big deal out of me and giving me a lot of attention, which is a Corgi's dream. I am getting a ton of tummy rubs. My owner had sarted calling me "Forrest" because she says I am running everywhere. Frankly, I don't get it.

Todays pictures are of me walking towards my owner and eating a treat. Notice the trim waist and hips.
Until next time....
Charlie

Week 12

May 29, 2012
Starting weight 35 pounds
Goal weight 25 pounds
Current weight 30 pounds

Hello everybody This is Charlie checking in and letting everyone know how its going on my diet.
Yes, I'm still on it.
Mom is still feeding me the Science Diet Therapeutic plan and she is not budging with it. Although, she forgot to order it in a timely manner and I was FORCED to eat my sisters food for a couple of days. I was gonna complain and then I figured "she's the boss, mom knows what she is doing" So of course I just ate what was put in front of me. I was raised right!!!.
I am a happy 30 pounder right now. Five whole pounds have come off in almost 2 months! I seem to have leveled off at 30 pounds which is OK with me because I am moving so much better. Five pounds is a lot for me.
I am having a great time this summer chasing the lawn mower and keeping all of the neighborhood dogs in their proper place. The herding instinct is so strong I am herding the neighborhood kids.
I had a Spa Day a Trickum Ridge and I am so soft and pretty. My nails were cut back and I can move!!! I can put two feet behind me and book it. Just like a "real" Corgi is supposed to be able to do.

Todays pictures are just of "people days" of summer and a much trimmer self. I am one happy dog!

Until next time....
Charlie
